My Story

Kiesha Garrison is the Founder of Hey, Black Seattle!, a company that helps people of the African diaspora discover Black cultural experiences and community resources in the Greater Seattle Area. With over 20 years of experience in technology, publishing, and communications, her overarching mission is to guide people towards the insight, resources, and experiences they need to thrive as their true selves.

Kiesha's career started in publishing, working on consumer marketing for brands like People, InStyle, and Sports Illustrated for Kids. Seeing the impact of the internet on the industry, she pivoted to technology where she led data partnerships at Vitals, a top provider of online tools for finding healthcare providers. She continued shaping digital products at Microsoft as a business development lead, negotiating partnerships for the MSN global network and the Intelligent Cloud. She later became the Director of Communications & Culture for the AI Platform engineering team. Kiesha was also a founding board member for The Live Music Project, a Seattle-based nonprofit which supports access to the arts through the development of community-driven technology products.

As a performer and speaker, Kiesha's work focuses on how systemic oppression affects personhood and culture. She uses this insight as an emcee and moderator to guide learning and development experiences across the globe. In her hosting life, Kiesha has led major broadcasts and events (such as Workhuman Live & Microsoft Include), and interviewed well-known subjects like Will Smith, Lenny Kravitz and countless corporate, nonprofit, and community leaders. She is also a comedian, poet, and host of the self-discovery podcast YOU Better.

Through Hey, Black Seattle, the Spelman alum aims to celebrate the creative tenacity of Black Seattleites and contribute to a sense of wellbeing and hope in the region that she and her daughter, Lauryn, have called home for the past 10 years.
